The primary goal of this site is to educate those with, and family members of those with, illnesses of what to do and what to expect when considering using palliative care. Palliative care is a special form of medicine where expert clinicians focus on the “whole person” to help address and alleviate symptoms of serious illness which are difficult to achieve through traditional medicine.
When designing this site wanted to make sure that it had an overall calming and peaceful feel. Nature was a key item the client wanted to incorporate in the site. The background images change each time a page is loaded and change to a different type of flower that fits into the color palette of the site. The butterfly image on the home page was chosen because a butterfly represents the the overall symbol of transformation of the spirit and the completion of the life cycle. The image showing hands touching while transferring the butterfly also symbolizes the passing of life experiences, thoughts and memories on to others.
We avoided using many hard square edges as many typical sites use to not take away from the feel we were trying to achieve. Instead, the curved top and bottom and curved background graphic help to support the free flowing and soothing feel of the site.
